Masterchef and FutureChef among the attractions at this year’s Winter Fair

Two rising stars from the Welsh food industry will be showing off their skills at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair in Llanelwedd next week.

Ludovic Dieumegard, who is the head chef at the Old Red Cow in Newcastle Emlyn and was a semi finalist in the BBC 2 series Masterchef: The Professionals, will be showing visitors to the Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) stand at the Winter Fair how to make top class food.

HCC will also welcome back a young Welsh chef aiming to be the next Jamie Oliver.

17 year old Luke Thomas from Connah's Quay won the FutureChef competition this year. He was a big hit among visitors at the Royal Welsh Show in the summer when he gave a highly informative demonstration using Welsh Lamb on the HCC stand.

They will be joined by HCC's own master chef Elwen Roberts who will be hosting demonstrations throughout Monday and Tuesday.

While taste buds are tantalised by our chefs, HCC will also challenge the minds of visitors to its stand.

A carcase selection competition, inviting people to grade a selection of beef carcases, will aim to increase their knowledge of how animals are graded.

HCC will also run another competition offering five lucky winners with the chance to win accommodation and tickets for the Cattle Breeders Conference which is being held at the Telford Golf and Spa Hotel in January.

During the two day event, members of HCC's Industry Development team will be raising awareness among farmers of projects which are available to help them grow their business.

HCC has secured funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 to provide financial support for technology transfer and is inviting people to put forward project proposals.

These could create new technologies that would be beneficial to the industry in areas including climate change, genetic improvement and animal health and welfare.

HCC will also be talking about the activities being delivered under the Farming Connect Red Meat Development Programme as the search continues to find a new demonstration farm in south west Wales.
